Christopher Seppälä is one of the world’s preeminent practitioners and leading authorities on international construction law and arbitration. He has been closely involved with the International Federation of Consulting Engineers’ (FIDIC) Contracts Committee, either as a member or as an adviser, for over three decades. That involvement, together with his years of experience as an advocate and arbitrator in construction disputes, makes Seppälä a genuine expert in the field. It is therefore no surprise that his book, The FIDIC Red Book Contract: An International Clause-by-Clause Commentary, a Wolters Kluwer publication, is a remarkable contribution to the field of international construction law.

Presented over five chapters, this book is a comprehensive treatise on the FIDIC Red Book Contract. To provide the necessary context for the material that follows, the book first traces the evolution of international construction law in general and identifies the distinctive features of FIDIC Contracts. Seppälä then provides an insightful comparison of various versions of the FIDIC Red Book Contract, to develop the reasons behind the measured evolution of the FIDIC Red Book Contract.
